Well - only a few days to go and I leave the EPMU as a paid offcial and become part of the Blackball Hilton Team. It is a sad time in regards to leaving the EPMU but exciting moving into hospitality - which I am vary familiar with!

On TV last night Roger Griffiths went into Westpac Nelson and drew out $250,000 because the bank would not lend him 70 odd grand to buy a house. Bloody good for him! With 250 of his own and 70 of theirs it is obvious thier loan was covered so why say no? so what if he didnt pay the mortgage? They'd soon move in quick enough to sell the house, turf him out and take whats owed with costs and interest! Tossers! The same happened to me in the late 80's - I had a good job, $30,000 in the bank (yes, Westpac) and a fiance who had a good government job. We wanted 52 grand to buy our first house but for no reason given they said no. So I drew my money out right then and there and buggered off to another bank. They rang a week later saying its ok now you can come back - I never did!

Another banking nightmare was when I changed houses 12 months ago. After going to Bank Direct saying what I was doing, is it ok? They said yes all good, a couple of emails were exchanged and I signed up for the house and we moved. For one reason or another there was a hold up with the title and the finance could not happen until this was sorted - bloody councils, but thats another story - a few months later when it was all sorted and the lawyer told Bank Direct it was all go, they said no! Wankers!! I could not believe it!! I was forced out by Bank Direct, in no uncertain terms I was told they did not want my business, after 26 years of being with ASB (owner of Bank Direct)and never, ever defaulting. Bugger me - I was gutted. As I had already signed the papers for the house I had to find another bank (NZ Home Loans - bloody fantastic!) but then Bank Direct said because I broke the mortgage I would have to pay 20 grand if break fees!!! I told them that they are the ones who forced me out! I would have been happy to stay but they didnt want me after saying yes, then no!!!

So go Roger - I think we should all do it. Have a look at this yourselves, just check how much these banks are pulling from us. Bloody millions! Read "The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" by Robert Tressell, specifically, chapter 21 which contains the Great Money Trick.
